Review
From Santiago Metropolitan Region of Chile, Frank Jacket is one of the unsung heroes of this music industry. He sits quietly in the back room and produces some of the best loved covers of all genres, mainly country and Tex-Mex & Cantina (Spanish) Music. But crosses it with his brilliant style. Both vocally and musically. Blending it together that would make you believe it could have been written today and still recorded back in 1955. Hear how he re creates that sun studio sound. Frank plays everything you hear on this release, Pedal Steel Guitar, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Double Bass & Drums (Pedal Steel Guitar, Guitarras Acústica y Eléctrica, Contrabajo y Batería) plus producers, mixes and records it. And all this for a simple donation on the band camp link (above). So lets get this track played and reviewed.
Track Review
You’re Right, I’m Left, She’s Gone
Its history is a song written by Bill Taylor and Stan Kesler and was recorded back in 1955 as the flip side to Elvis Presley’s Baby Lets Playhouse. i always felt that this was more a country song done in a rockabilly style on the original. Franks version is just a bit smoother. And its got a Spanish come Hawaiin country backing to it, vocal just extraordinary as always with this artist. So chilled vocally, Mid way through frank turns the vocals into a raw rockin vocal be fore letting the song nicely end.
I Told A Lie To My Heart
What a great privilege to hear frank back with his Hank Williams track. nobody does justice to a Hank song like Mr Jacket. Franks vocals are so close to the country stars its un-canny. Providing the Harmony himself to his own lead vocal. Playing all the instruments just makes you admire this artists style, knowledge and delivery of the recording. Simply sublime’
Summary
Not many artist can stir my blood vocally, but frank is one that can. Such a huge talent. His ability to transport you back to a time when music was just making new grounds with styles and genres. Any new release is always a pleasure to hear and I look forward to many more from this top notch performer.
Recommendation
