I have been a fan of 50’s rock ‘n’ roll for as long as I can remember. The first gig I went to was the now legendary “London Rock and Roll Show” at Wembley Stadium in 1972. Later that year I went to a local pub, the Greenford Hotel, to see Shakin’ Stevens and the Sunsets who were supported by two DJs, Rockin’ Roy Williams and Runaround Stu Wester known collectively as the Wild Wax Show. At that point I had no idea that within a few months I would also be a member of the Wild Wax Show with the moniker of Jailhouse John. Our best known gigs were the Fishmongers Arms in Wood Green, the George in Hammersmith and biggest and best of all, the Lyceum in the Strand. Although I say it myself we were a major force in the so called “rockabilly revival” of the 1970s.
As for my musical tastes they cover most styles of rock and roll from early hillbilly boogie and rhythm and blues to Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dave Edmunds, Stray Cats etc. My all time favourite artist is Buddy Holly.
You can read more about me in the excellent book “Teds, Rebels, Hepcats & Psychos: The Story of British Rockabilly 1966-1998”. by. Paul Wragg.
